FAQs
Why did we relaunch awards program from the BC Health Care Awards to the HEABCs?

We re-launched the awards program with a focus on labour relations and human resource practices that is more consistent with our core mandate.

We know how important it is to provide safe, supportive, equitable, inclusive, and rewarding work environments, both in support of recruitment and retention efforts, as well as to provide working conditions that allow our frontline health care professionals to provide world-class health care services to BC residents.

The human resource and labour relations professionals who work in the BC health sector are critical to building the positive and collaborative relationships that are necessary to achieve this aim.

Building safe, healthy, and supportive work environments requires employers, employees, and unions to work together, and we will see a pattern of collaboration in the work of teams and individuals receiving awards today.

What does the bee icon symbolize?

Honeybees are industrious and cooperative creatures known for working together in pursuit of a common goal, and, like the HR and LR professionals we are recognizing today, their work has impact well beyond their own hive.

Bees are important pollinators for flowers, fruits and vegetables, taking the pollen and nectar from plants back to their hives and storing it in the honeycomb. This work supports their own well-being and lifecycle, but it also plays an essential role in maintaining the health of ecosystems and supporting biodiversity. Through their work, HR and LR professionals support the creation of healthy workplace ecosystems that support the delivery of high-quality care.

For these reasons, we thought the industrious, collaborative, and essential honeybee was a good symbol and metaphor for our refreshed awards program.
