Labour Relations 101
Workshop Description
This two-day workshop provides managers in BC health care facilities with an overview of important labour relations principles as they apply to the province's health care sector. It also empowers managers to make sound managerial decisions within a unionized workplace by considering their managerial rights, collective agreements, legislation and case law.
Day 1: Participants will gain an overview of the following labour relations topics and apply them to health care case studies:
- Collective bargaining
- Collective agreement administration
- Grievances
- Arbitrations and third-party processes
- Contract disputes, strikes and lockouts
Day 2: Participants are provided with a framework for making management decisions in the unionized workplace, and then apply the framework to case studies covering a wide range of topics, including the following:
- Human rights
- Privacy
- Implementing a new policy or program
- Bullying and harassment
- Absenteeism / Lateness
- Poor work performance
- Theft
- Off-duty conduct
